Faith in Worthing Co-ordinators

  Jane Barton BA(Hons)
I am the Unitarian minister in Worthing and Brighton & Hove. My interest in inter Faith or multi faith communities began over 20 years ago in the East End of London when I was Community Advisor to St. Joseph’s Hospice. I realised then that unless the religious and cultural practices of the community were properly understood it was nearly impossible to provide appropriate care for patients and relatives. Since coming to Sussex over 10 years ago I have been much involved with the Brighton Inter Faith Contact Group. Unitarians were founding members of the International Association of Religious Freedom and are much involved in The World Congress of Faith and other organisations that promote dialogue between faith traditions.

Peter Brown BA(Hons) BVetMed MSc(VetGP) MRCVS
I am a practising veterinary surgeon and an Anglican Lay Reader based at Queen Street Fellowship in Broadwater Parish, Worthing. My interest in inter faith dialogue has developed as a result of completing a theology degree at the University of Chichester. The encounter with other faiths is potentially a challenging one, but I find myself agreeing with the Anglican theologian Keith Ward, who said, "I am inclined to say that one cannot properly understand the mode of divine revelation within Christianity unless one can set it in the context of human religious activity in general." It is with the aim of furthering that understanding that I have helped to set up this web site.

  Ali bin Abdul Rahman FCCA
I am a Chartered Certified Accountant working in a Chartered Accountants firm in Worthing, and in my spare time I am the Chairman of the Worthing Islamic Social & Welfare Society. My interest in inter-faith really began during my childhood in Malaysia. I grew up surrounded by people of many beliefs and I feel very lucky to have been brought up in such a multi-racial and multi-faith community. We celebrated each others' festivals and our friendships saw no barriers.

In more recent times, I was touched by the support given to the Muslim community of Worthing by people of different faiths which became so noticeable when we were faced with an arson attack at the Mosque. I really do feel that the way forward for us all is to know and respect one another's faiths and learn to live in harmony, celebrating our differences.
